Professional Development in Health Care

Introduction

Starting from the definition healthcare entails the prevention of physical, mental situations of human beings through the services provided by health experts (Grover, 2007). Infections are unique in a way, and they move from one person to another. Therefore, access to a quality health care is very important for a population at large (Burns, 2005)

Importance of healthcare

Getting access to quality healthcare is the most important option in driving away health-related problems, which is a very important strategy because it increases the life span of people. The support given to graduate schools, assurance of quality health care and avoidance of medical error and medical laws is some of the efforts that have been done so that quality healthcare is delivered especially in the US (Armoni, 2000). The health care provided by specialists and the kind of services provided in hospitals is a clear indication of the continuum of care.

Major changes that have taken place in the health care structure that include salary increment and service delivery, welfare reforms, are very important issues for the population, which is at risk (Grover, 2007). Improvement of primary health care is an effort to provide quality health. The advantage of it is there will be access to health care where we find specialists who address the health care needs of many people.

Healthcare accreditations

To ensure that quality healthcare is provided a private organization has been created. This meticulous group accredits for more than 16000 health centers mostly in the United States, (Burns, 2005).

The mandate of this commission is to accredit health plans and health care networks. The commission keeps a record of all the published manuals for all activities undertaken. There are several published books that point out the progress of the organization, performance or whether it is complying with the standards of the commission (Armoni, 2000).

Healthcare evaluation

Evaluation of hospitals by the nationally-recognized professional organizations is very important bearing in mind that it is a place for organization and dispensing medical services to the community it serves (Grover, 2007). Hospitals are not fixed; they may change depending on the size of the population and the outbreak of diseases. The whole process of developing hospitals has several stages: briefing, designing, constructing, evaluation and commissioning (Armoni, 2000). Evaluation has also some stages, which includes:

  • Deciding the objectives of your study
  • Look for the required information
  • Analyzing the information
  • Reporting the findings

Below are factors that should be evaluated by the independent body, which reflects a clear picture of hospitals in the provision of excellent health care service.

  • Deficiencies within the management
  • Shortcomings of the facilities in use, which are related to the activities of the users
  • The adaptability of the facility in meeting the demands of the population and its ability to meet the changing needs
  • Comparison of similar hospitals in terms of running cost and the planned cost
  • The performance of the hospital is also evaluated

Organizational performance

Interdepartmental management is very crucial in most organizations it is supposed to plan, organize, lead and control. If we take, an example of a hospital a doctor is responsible for examining the patient and then deciding the best medication for the patient (Grover, 2007). A pharmacist is supposed to know whether that medication is available or not, if not she orders it from suppliers and delivers the drug to the nurse in the ward. If this procedure is not followed, many people will lose their lives.

All organization performance is measured with respect to the output. This output can be measured in a number of dimensions, which include financial performance, customer service and corporate citizenship (Grover, 2007). For instance, in health care, its performance can be evaluated by focusing on the mortality rate.

Mock survey

The mock survey is of great importance in the preparation of staff. It should be done a month prior to the original survey. Its important that;

  • It gives staff a hint of the topics that will be asked and the expected feedback.
  • It outlines areas that are deficient in an organization
  • Enables staff to comprehend what surveyors are looking for and understand the rationale behind the questions

An example of a mock survey was one, which was conducted by the Ministry of health. This exercise was there to determine the mortality rate in North Eastern province. A month later a group from the world health organization came which was asking the same questions (Armoni, 2000). Therefore, the mock survey prepared us for the actual survey.

Continuity

All people in the different fields constantly strive to improve the quality of what they deliver (Armoni, 2000). The greatest effort is seen in healthcare because it not only saves lives but it actually gives life.CQI allows one to see when the process is working and when it’s not. it is actually harder both mentally and physically to be continuing to be up to date and on top of things (Grover, 2007).

Conclusion

Continuous effort should be implemented every time although it is difficult. The key concern in health care is what am really delivering to my clients and I would monitor my effectiveness through the service that is given to them. Continuous professional development is considered the best strategy in health care. The resources used for one to become a professional and get the skills are high and my suggestion is that cutting costs could be better.
