Every sweet has its sour; every evil its good.

Every sweet has its sour; every evil its good. By: Ralph Waldo Emerson The Emerson quote I chose is “ Every sweet has its sour; every evil its good. ” This quote means that nothing is truly good; all good things have something bad with it. The meaning of the second part is that with all bad things comes a little good. Together it means that nothing is perfect. The reason I picked this is because all good things that happen in my life and in the lives of others always turn around and bite back. Most recently, after just playing in the most prestigious game in the NFL, San Francisco 49ers tight end Delanie Walker learned that his aunt and uncle were killed in a car accident after leaving the Super Bowl. This quote also spoke to me in the fact that when Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast or when 9/11 happened, those who were hit the worst came together to rebuild and pull through. [Water is] the only drink for a wise man. By: Henry David Thoreau The Thoreau quote that I chose is “[Water is] the only drink for a wise man. ” This quote means that a wise man knows that water is the only drink to stay wise. A transcendentalist would only drink pure water without chemicals, over processing, or artificial ingredients. A wise man would know that soda, beer, and other processed drinks only hurt and damage your mind. I chose this quote because it is something I try to live in my life. Last summer I decided to give up soda and energy drinks and started drinking more water. All of the artificial ingredients, added sugar, and other things aren’t healthy. Water is the only natural drink that will keep you healthy, clear your mind, and help you to stay wise.
