Ellen’s early television did not create a good impression. Shehad performed the role of supporting player in two short-lived TV situationcomedies; Open house (1989) and Laurie hill (1992). In 1994, she was on top ofthe news because of her own sitcom on ABC “ These friends of mine”. It was laternamed as Ellen after completing its first season. During 1997, she created history when Ellen herself openlyannounced that she was a lesbian. (She became a staunch advocate of LGBTrights.) Her show suffered due to this announcement and further they had tocancel the following season of show.
Ellen returned back to stand-up circuit. Laterin 2001, she launched a new series named as The Ellen Show on CBS, but its endwas no different. It also had to face poor ratings and was cancelled. After two years, in 2003, she was the host of her own show, Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show (2003) which went really successful in theaudience. The show was a great success. It gained higher rating along with popularityin the industry and proved as one of the best award winning talk show. And itbecame the triumphing 15 Emmy Awards in its first 3 seasons at the air andturning into the first talk show history to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk show in its first 3seasons. DeGeneres has additionally made a call for herself as a bunchof awards shows.
She hosted the Grammy Awards in 1996 and 1997, in addition tothe Primetime Emmy Awards in 2001 and 2005.
